Glossopdale WI

Glossopdale WI is the only daytime WI in the area. We started meeting in 1996 and now have 35 members ranging from 30 to 86 years young. In 2009 we won the Membership Cup for Small WIs in Derbyshire. We are part of the Pennine Group of WIs which also includes Charlesworth, Old Glossop, Padfield, Simmondley, Tintwistle, and Whitfield.

It's really informal. We meet in the pub and the idea is just to read the book then turn up with a bit of an opinion on it and money for beer/wine/orange squash. That's about it!

Tintwistle Bowling Club

The club is currently holding open days every Saturday at 10:00 for anyone who is interested in playing. At the moment, crown green bowls is a sport very much on the decline but we want to get more young people involved in sport and becoming active.

Hadfield Crown Green Bowling Club

For the 2nd year Hadfield Bolwing Club is holding the Wilf Thomas pairs on Sunday 8th June at 10.30 am.
Paradise Street, SK13 1BA Hadfield, Tameside, United Kingdom. This competition is run for clubs in the valley (Hadfield Glossop Tintwistle Etherow Gamesley and Manor Park ). All money raised goes to willow wood hospice. 
If you would like to enter please arrive before 10.30 to sign in. Entry £8 per pair.  Or come along and watch. BBQ, refreshments, raffle etc.

Jon Wray leads the way


An excellent round by Jon Wray won the medal competition at Glossop Golf Club last Saturday. Playing for the Lanceley Salver, Jon carded a terrific 5 under par round of 63 net which included two two’s on the third and eighteenth holes. Jon’s score left him two shots ahead of the field and winner of Division 1, Tony Kenyon led them home in Division 2 with a 3 under par 65.

Digital Outreach and Glossop Volunteer Centre are calling upon the business community to join its volunteer Knowledge Bank; a pool of professionals that local charities can tap into when in need. ‘Volunteer High Peak’, a campaign launching on the 30th anniversary of National Volunteers’ Week (1-7 June), is looking for individuals and businesses to pledge a number of hours per month and provide free knowledge and expertise to charities and community organisations.

Was created in the sixties by a few small angling clubs, local to the Glossop area, to protect them from other bigger clubs with more money and more clout. It was feared, at that time, that clubs outside the area would come in and take over the small but well stocked ponds in and around Glossop, and so G.A.A.S. was formed.

Established in 1975 with the aim of preserving our local footpaths by walking them, we are thirty nine years old and have a membership of around 150 people.  Our varied walks programme includes short strolls with the possibility of a pub lunch, longer hikes further afield, coach trips and a weekend's walking away from home.

Glossop Record Club

Glossop Record Club sessions are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month at Glossop Labour Club, Chapel Street, Glossop, SK13 8AT from 8pm-11pm. Entry is free, although a voluntary donation to the Labour Club is appreciated. The monthly sessions give local music-lovers a chance to reconnect with the music by listening to classic albums on vinyl and in full, in a setting as free from distraction as possible. Attendees also get the opportunity to bring along favourites from their own collections to share.
